Clinical Gait Analysis

Gait Analysis
Gait Analysis

Do you have foot, ankle, knee or hip pain with walking or running? Are you training for an event this summer and have developed painful niggles? At Ullswater Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Clinic we are expert in the clinical assessment of human movement including walking and running, otherwise known as clinical gait analysis. Mary the Physio has undertaken extensive post-graduate training in clinical gait analysis at the University of Huddersfield and has a keen interest in lower limb movement and function.

Our Physiotherapy and Podiatry skills allow us to identify the causes and solutions to many of the aches and pains associated with walking and running. With your permission we will film you walking and/or running on our treadmill and assess your gait visually and in slow motion. The film is used to illustrate the nature of the problem e.g. stride length/width, over pronation, reduced range of movement, muscle weakness or tightness.

We will then fully explain the findings in practical terms ensuring you fully understand what is needed to correct movement improve pain and performance.

It is then usually appropriate to use a combination of treatment methods including corrective exercises, taping, footwear suggestions and sometimes orthotics can help.

If you have any lower limb injuries, restrictions or painful conditions then clinical gait analysis could help to unravel the causes and identify solutions.

5 Star Review: “Part of the assessment was to analyse the way I was walking by videoing me on her treadmill from different angles. This helped enormously in my understanding of how I was walking and what I needed to correct this. Mary also put together and emailed me individualised exercise plan that I would benefit from following her analysis. This was invaluable and I have been able to carry these exercises out at home.” Chris Longcake
