Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. Pilates is named for its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920s. Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and well being. Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes.
