Nsouli Barbell Cumbria Powerlifting Champs

Nsouli Barbell hosted the Cumbria Powerlifting Championships Sunday 28th April at Snap Fitness Carlisle. Over 60 lifters from all around the North West of England attended the day and the atmosphere was electric. Everyone received a very warm welcome and worked together in the warm up area helping each other out. Nsouli Barbell Club had 14 lifters male and female across the weight categories all putting in excellent performances on the platform.

Coach Jimmy Nsouli winner of the -105kg category

The first person who deserves a special mention is Coach and Lifter Jimmy Nsouli who as well as competing himself was also coaching and organising the day to ensure the competition ran smoothly. He won his -105kg category with a PB performance lifting a total of 580kg and beating some tough opposition in the process. Congratulations Jimmy we are all very proud of you as a lifter and as our Coach.

Ryan Dean and Martin ‘Biff’ McGimpsey winners of the -120kg and 120kg+ categories

Next up for the winners was Ryan Dean who put in a PB performance of 672.5kg and won the -120kg category. He had the biggest total across all weight categories on the day. An awesome performance.

Also Martin ‘Biff’ McGimpsey had a fantastic days lifting competing in his first ever full Powerlifting competition and lifted a total of 615kg and won the 120kg+ category.

We then have Jason Holmes who lifted a total of 547.5kg and won the -83kg category.

Netty Hall lifted a total of 352.5kg and won the -84kg category.

Jennifer Wright competed in her first ever Powerlfiting competition and totalled 370kg and came 2nd in the 84kg+ category.

Shane Bowman had an awesome day and totalled 407.5kg and came 2nd in the -66kg category.

David Murphey competed in his first ever Powerlifting competition and lifted an impressive total of 540kg and came 2nd in the -120kg category.

Tristan Murphey competed in his first ever Powerlifting competition on his 18th birthday and totalled 435kg in the -105kg category.

Tom Nicholson had an excellent day and totalled 492.5kg in the -83kg category and qualified for the British Championships.

Carl Johnson also had his first ever competition and totalled 445kg in the -93kg category.

Another first time competitive lifter was Shane McLeary who lifted a total of 505kg in the -105kg category.

Will France competed also for the first time and totalled 400kg and came 3rd in the -74kg category.

Brian McMeekan totalled 590kg in the 120kg+ category just two weeks after competing for the RAF.

All of the guest lifters who traveled across the North West of England to attend were impressed with the facilities at Snap Fitness Carlisle and commented on the friendly welcome they received.
